Care of Participants
- HCBA takes care to ensure that our games are played with safety as the top priority
- Games are adapted as required to match players’ abilities so that participation, teamwork and enjoyment of the games are emphasized.
- HCBA has fantastic volunteers. A volunteer coordinator is at every game and checks in with volunteers to keep them up to date with HCBA policy/communications. Police checks for volunteers are required.
- Players that have special medical needs or potential behavioral struggles must have an attendant with them that is trained to care for them. HCBA has a first aid kit available, however volunteers cannot take responsibility for care of the players as we can’t ensure adequate training for care of participants.
- Players that need assistance to arrive at their games and to be transported back to their residence must have a family member or attendant with them to assist with their travel arrangements.
- Players may have Buddies assist them during games, however, the priority of the buddies is to encourage players to participate to the maximum of their ability.
- We are not able to provide volunteer buddies, players that require assistance must bring a buddy.
- Getting a proper uniform order for all players can be a challenge. We order uniforms about 4 months prior to the start of each season based on the previous years registrations and then will order extra of the most common sizes.
- Since the uniform supplier can't guarantee a short turn around time for purchase, screening and delivery of uniforms, Jerseys may not be available for new players that are not registered 4 months prior to the start of the program. However, about 2 -3 weeks after the start of any program, if necessary, a second order will be placed so that all players will get a jersey, although unfortunately it will take an additional 2 - 3 weeks for delivery of the second order.
- When filling in your registration form, please take the time to make sure you are ordering a large enough size, it doesn't hurt to have some extra room which will facilitate a better range of mobility for the player.
- IMPORTANT:
Due to insurance restrictions, only players in good financial standing with HCBA will be permitted to participate in sports activities. Be sure to speak with a registration coordinator if you have any concerns.
- EXCEPTION: If you are uncertain that you want to register and would like to try an activity first, please speak with a registration coordinator and they will arrange for you to 'try out' the activity for one day only.
